tweaker: 2am wakeup call remix contest

(LOS ANGELES, California, July 6th, 2004), Sony Pictures Digital Networks’ Internet community for cutting edge music progressive and Waxploitation Records, a leading one of the top electronic and hip hop record labels, have teamed up to create an exclusive opportunity for music fans to remix the next single from the new Tweaker album 2 a.m. Wakeup Call.

The Tweaker Remix Contest will begin at Noon PST on July 6th, 2004 at The song being offered for remix is “It’s Still Happening” featuring Hamilton Leithauser (of the band The Walkmen).

Contestants will have access to loops created from the original masters as well as a free version of the ACID® Xpress software a free version of Sony Media Software's award-winning loop based music composition tool loop based music composition tool. will provide all the content and tools needed to enter the Tweaker Remix Contest.

Tweaker is the alter ego band project of Chris Vrenna, recognized as one of the top producer-remixers in the music world and a founding member of Nine Inch Nails. Vrenna has worked with a ‘who’s who’ of artists such as U2 for Lara Croft : Tomb Raider, P.O.D. for The Scorpion King as well as Weezer, David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins and Rob Zombie amongst many others. Vrenna has produced and composed music for a number of video games including Doom III, American McGee’s Alice, Quake (as a member of NIN), Enter The Matrix and upcoming games such as Tabula Rasa and Area 51.

The winning remix will receive Sony® ACID PRO 4 software, five Loops for ACID™ loop libraries, as well as CDs and t-shirts merchandisefrom Tweaker and Waxploitation. Additionally, the winning remix will be added to the forthcoming Tweaker 2 a.m. wakeup call remix album which will include remixes from Danger Mouse, King Britt and Teargas & Plateglass amongst others.

“The response we got from the remix contest a few years ago for the debut Tweaker album was totally unexpected.” says Vrenna. “Initially I was kind of scared to have thousands of people who I didn’t know doing remixes it, but the quality of the remixes was surprisingly good. It was very hard to pick the winners. So this time, I am really hoping to have the same level of interest and the same quality of work.”

The 2 a.m. Wakeup Call CD was co-written by Vrenna collaborator Clint Walsh and features guest appearances from Robert Smith (The Cure), Will Oldham, Johnny Marr (The Smiths), David Sylvian, Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields) and Mellowdrone amongst others.

Tweaker is currently wrapping up its first nationwide tour, with Skinny Puppy.
